Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital
Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital (AJEH) is one of Mumbai's leading eye hospital.[1] It was rated as 'the best eye hospital in Mumbai' by Outlook (magazine), an Indian weekly news magazine in its July 2002 issue.
History
- It was established by chairman and managing director Dr. S. Natarajan in 1990 in Dadar[2] and recently shifted to its current location in Wadala.
- It also houses the Aditya Jyot Eye Bank and Aditya Jyot Optometry Institute.[3]
- Consultants affiliated with Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital include Dr. S. Natarajan, Cornea specialist Dr. Vandana Jain, Dr. Saumil Sheth, Dr. Priya Srinivas, Dr. Supriya Dabir, Dr. Rupali Sinha, Dr. Rohit Nikam, Dr. Anupam Deshpande and Dr. Debraj Shome. Dr. M. M. Sharma is a senior anesthesiologist at the institute; Dr. Radhika Srinivasan, also an anesthesiologist, is the medical administrator. Dr. Nayana Shirke is the Medical Counselor and administrative co-ordinator.
- Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital has been visited by the former President of India A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, former Governor of Maharashtra, S. M. Krishna and the chief minister of Maharashtra, Vilasrao Deshmukh.[4]

- Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital trains medical graduates in Ophthalmology. It is a recognized institute for DNB (Diplomate of National Board).[5]
- Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital also offers fellowships to Indian and foreign ophthalmic post graduates in Vitreoretinal surgery and Anterior Segment surgery.

- Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital was one of the first eye hospitals in Mumbai to offer LASIK to patients.[6]
- Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital is the only eye care hospital which is open 24 hours a day.
- Botox or botulinium toxin treatment is also offered under the supervision of a trained oculoplastic surgeon.[7]

Recent Advances and Achievements
- Recently, Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital launched the latest 4th generation Optical coherence tomography (OCT) which will combine evaluation of retina, cornea and glaucoma in one.[8]
- Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital is the first hospital in Asia to introduce the retinal endoscope and the Preferential hyperacuity perimeter.[9]
- Dr. S. Natarajan, Chairman and Managing Director, was appointed the honorary ophthalmic surgeon to the Governor of Maharashtra.[10]
- Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital is one of the institutes in India which transplants stem cells grown in a culture medium in the lab into patients suffering from chemical burns and ocular diseases which need such stem cells.[11]
- In February 2006, NCRM (Nichi-in Centre for Regenerative Medicine) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital for a collaborative research on Retinal stem cells in the presence of the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, R.R. Patil and Mr. Hyosuke Yasui, the consul general of Japan.[12]
